Amy Plum’s Daily Devoirs: The Love Dev

Tell someone that you love them. (Someone you love, of course!) How do they respond first? With voice, touch, or facial expression? If on the phone, does their voice change after you tell them? How? Take their reaction to heart, cherish it, and then run quickly to write it down.

My The Love Dev: I told my four-year-old daughter that I loved her. She didn’t say anything, she just grabbed me around the neck and hugged me as tightly as she could.

Told my best friend I love her for always being there. Her eyes lit up, she smiled, took my hand and told me she loved me too. It was a lovely moment.

I told my mother that I love her. I tell her that much almost everyday, several times a day, so it wasn’t as if she was truly surprised. But I tried to sound more serious this time, so she looked at me, paused a moment and told me “I love you too, my darling”, softly, accompanying the words with a little smile and a tender hug. I squeezed her and then went back to my business. 🙂

I´m in Berlin right now. I took this little trip to clear my head by visiting places I love. I read this Dev a few minutes ago. Since I was and still am alone in my hotelroom, and it´s too late to call my dad, mum or sis´ (I would freak them out by just calling to say “I love you”. They would think something´s wrong, and since I broke up with the man I love and had no will to call him in the future, I sat on the bed and looked at myself in the mirror right in front of me. I had to think of all the things I´ve done lately. Good and bad. I don´t regret anything. I never told me, myself or/and I “I love you.” So I did that. I felt tears comming down my face, but I was smiling. I feel so amazing right now. Maybe a little alone, but full of serenity. Thank you so much for this dev, Amy. Thank you.

I love those. I can see those all fitting nicely into a book or short story. And Adna – that’s beautiful. So self-affirming. It would be a turning-point scene in a story where everything would go right for the heroine afterward – so I hope that happens for you! 🙂

he gave me a slow smile that slowly spread across his face and finally made it to his eyes….love a smile that crinkles the eyes….I could fix his problems but for a minute he felt better….
