BBC story on indie bookstores (featuring Myra McEntire & me!)

Here’s a great video from BBC shot in Nashville’s Parnassus Books, discussing how important small bookstores are to their communities.

Around the 2 minute mark, I explain what my revenants are and then Myra McEntire speaks eloquently about the why indie bookstores are important to authors. (This is with the event we did back in May.)

Tell me – what do you think about bookstores vs. buying online?

Dear Amy I was wondering how come the 3rd book if I die doesn’t come out until next year? Also I wanted to know if before until I die came out did you already start working on the 3rd book? Love all your books! thank you so much.

I prefer to buy my books at a bookstore. That is how I bought Die 4 Me. I wanted to get a couple of books to read and didn’t know which one(s) to read. I picked up D4M. I read the back cover and the first page or so, and that got me hooked. I also liked the beautiful artwork which you cannot appreciate until you see it in your hand. I do buy on-line as well. That is how I found the Elemental series by Brigid Kemmerer. There is a place for both. The important thing is to keep reading.

I prefer going to book stores as I can read the first to pages and see if I want to continue…

I’m for bookstores all the way! Even though I have downloaded a handful of ebooks on my Kindle, nothing will ever replace walking through bookshelves at my favorite bookstores, picking up various books, looking at the synopsis on the jacket and admiring the coverart. You just can’t get that online.

Hi Kay! HarperTeen has scheduled my books at 1 per year, so that is why IF I SHOULD DIE won’t be released until a year after UNTIL I DIE. And yes, I started working on IF I SHOULD DIE last year, but haven’t quite finished it yet. (I’m late!)

Geraldine, Olivia and Lori – I totally agree. I could spend all day in a bookstore, just flipping through books and admiring their covers. But, having lived in the middle of nowhere, France, for 8 years, I have to say I appreciate online ordering. It’s good to have the 2, but I hope one doesn’t swallow the other up!
